Happy summer greetings! There is an exciting event coming up that we have been invited to join. Liz Davis Maxfield (who wrote Xanny Boy, and lead the Guitar Technique Class for Cellists last fall) is in town for the summer. This past year not only did she graduate from the Berkeley School of Music in Boston, and receive a Fulbright Scholarship for her next stage of studies of Celtic cello in Ireland, but she released a solo CD. Since Utah is her home stomping ground, she is going to have a CD release concert here, and has invited my studio and myself to join her on a few numbers. This is a great chance for everyone to work with a great cellist, and also to see a great concert.
It will be on Saturday, August 22, at the Bonneville Glen (parking is on 1500 East and about 1050 South) at 6:30. Be there by 6:00 for tuning, bring your own chair and stand, and blankets or camp chairs to sit on.
As of now, the pieces we will be performing are Xanny Boy, and Pigeon on the Gate. We will discuss in your lessons which parts are right for you. There will be easy bass parts, melody, plucking chords, or higher descants, so everyone will have a part appropriate for them. There are only two requirements in order to participate: 1. Your part needs to be memorized and 2. Come to a rehearsal on Thursday, August 20 at 3:00 at the Quaker Meeting House. It will last about and hour and 15 min.
Because of this, we will not be having our originally scheduled Summer Picnic Recital Dinner on August 20.
Please let me know if you are or are not able to attend.
I'm really looking forward to this very exciting event! Feel free to invite family and friends for a great summer outdoor concert.
